I remember the exact moment that this lightning bolt of a concept struck me. I was sitting with my wife in a small coffee shop in Positano, Italy. The shop overlooked the beautiful blue water and mountain terrain of the Amalfi Coast. But despite the incredible scenery around us, the majority of the guests in the shop were on their phones, living in their own world and missing the world around them.

The shop owner was an older man in his mid to late 70’s who stood right behind the counter and greeted every single guest that walked into his shop. He would take their order, put it in the system, and join each guest for a brief conversation. He would ask them how their day was going and where they were from, and in those brief moments, each guest put down their phone and engaged with him in a casual, positive, and uplifting conversation. I remember thinking to myself in that exact moment:

When did we lose our ability to communicate and learn from one another?

We see it all of the time, not just in our personal lives, but in the professional world, that people have lost the ability and opportunity to engage on a personal level and learn about their clients, partners and colleagues. I decided that I would change the professional landscape, and focus on using my creative abilities to build customized, personal experiences that go beyond the work environment, much like the coffee shop owner in Italy.
